How I came to Know Christ and His Church
I was brought up in the Catholic church with the belief that only the priest could interpret the Bible. By the time I reached my senior year in college I was a self-proclaimed atheist. For about eight years I had a deep gnawing within me to find out the meaning of human life. I repeatedly inquired of people I met but no one could tell me. Finally, one day when I was in great despair, I agreed to attend a small Christian home meeting with a friend. It was there that God's Word penetrated for the first time, my inner being. The Lord Jesus actually spoke to me that He was standing at the door of my heart knocking and hoping that I would open up to Him. He told me if I would open He would come in and dine with me (Revelation 3:20). I was so awed that God was such a lovely person and would allow such a sinner as myself to dine with Him. I immediately prayed a prayer, Lord Jesus, come into my heart. From that moment on I have had the deep inward peace I always had been seeking and I knew the meaning of human life. I realized that I was not supposed to live on this earth by myself, but with Jesus inside of me. Now it's He in me and I in Him living together as one (John 14:20). What a wonderful mystery! God became a man so that He could live the human life, die, and resurrect to become the Spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45) to enter inside of man. Now He can live in man, become one with man and have man live Him out. I finally found the meaning of human life and my eternal destiny as well. This is my purpose now and for eternity.
From that time on I began to pray and ask the Lord which church I should attend because I was deeply bothered that there were so many from which to choose. As a young Christian I just wanted to serve the Lord and go wherever He wanted. After attending several different denominational meetings, the Lord led me to a very special place. It was a meeting of Christians where each one was participating. I had never been in this kind of situation. To see so many people hop up from their seats and declare something of the truth from the Word of God or from their personal experience with the Lord was so exciting. It wasn't a conventional meeting where just one man does all the speaking. Everyone seemed so encouraged and willing to share with others. I stood up and declared, I see Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27b). This was His people who had Him inside of them. I soon realized that all these people had been feeding on the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, so I began to do the same. During the years that followed I eventually met Witness Lee and heard him speak in person. Never before had I heard such a speaking so full of revelation and the authority of God Himself. I have been hearing and reading this ministry for the past twenty years and it has taken me into a living experience of Christ and His Church composed of all His believers.
